In the heart of Managua, Nicaragua sits the Old St James Cathedral. It is a magnificent building from a distance but as one approaches it's age and weakened structure become apparent. The building survived an earthquake in 1931 but was so damaged in an earthquake in 1972 that it was abandoned. The empty building gives a strange ghost-town like feel to the heart of the city.

The new cathedral in Managua, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is a strange and popular tourist destination. It is sort of cross of an industrial fortress and a church. While it initially comes off as alien and strange, with further investigation it gets more and more interesting.
