Echoes of the Past

In the heart of Managua, Nicaragua sits the Old St James Cathedral.  It is a magnificent building from a distance but as one approaches it's age and weakened structure become apparent.  The building survived an earthquake in 1931 but was so damaged in an earthquake in 1972 that it was abandoned.  The empty building gives a strange ghost-town like feel to the heart of the city.

Resistance or Politics

An old lady walks past graffiti in Managua, Nicaragua.  The graffiti piece is one supporting the FSLN or Sandinista National Liberation Front which is the ruling party currently.  There were many graffiti pieces all over Managua ranging from simple tags to full murals which seemed like one of the stranger political adoptions of underground youth culture.
